Gender Inequality In Workplace
Just like everywhere, workplaces are inequal areas, especially for women. There are a lot of reasons why but some crucial points lead to the cause and, in this blog post, we will be focusing on them. These are mainly like that;
1) Unequal Pay
According to the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, women earn 49 cents compared to every $1 men earn, even though they have the same hours of labor. It still may not seem like a dangerous issue to you but the idea behind this action is directly the thought of women being inferior to men so they should get paid less. A 2011 study by the British CMI concluded that, if pay growth continues for female executives at current rates, the gap between the earnings of female and male executives would not be closed until 2109. That means if things don't change women will be treated inequal for nearly 88 more years.
2) Sexual Harassment
Unfortunately, women are not safe even in their workplace. Researches show that 54 percent of women are sexually harassed while working and it's only the reported ones. It wouldn't be wrong to say it's just the tip of the iceberg because not everyone can find enough courage to report.
3) Mansplaining
Mansplaining is a pejorative term that means ''to comment on or explain something to a woman in a condescending, overconfident, and often inaccurate or oversimplified manner'' also often done by a man to woman. I think we all agree on how annoying is to get fooled by someone especially when it's something that you already know. Women face men's unsupported overconfidence and ego every workday. Imagine how tired they are. The starting point of mansplaining is of course men's superiority complex like I've mentioned before on my blog page. They explain basic things to women like it's so complex to understand and women couldn't figure it out without their help. They also belittle the woman they are talking to while explaining things to them in order to satisfy their male ego.
As might be expected, there are thousands of more problems that women have to deal with while working despite the fact that I only mentioned some major ones.
